Could be a poor earth somehwere. I have reason to believe the tailgate electrics go to a multi-plug somewhere in the region of the rear inner side of the boot under the lining. It may worth checking there is continuity between the cables.
Again for some weird reason I think the solenoid for the glass opening is a slave to the door mechanism - so if there is a fault in the boot lid system the other is not likely to operate correctly.
I have gleaned the above info from the depths of my memory so there is no guarantee I am correct but it just might help trace the problems you are having
