Help! My Scenic has had an intermittent starting problem for over 6 months!
Cannot determine any pattern in temperature/weather/no. of times started that day.
Car usually turns over and starts very quickly without any accelerator. Some days it remains consistent no matter how many starts. Other days it can play up all the time - always turns over but seems to make no attempt to actually start! This can take up to 5-10 minutes at worst.
I am, unfortunately not very mechanically minded, but have relied on the 'professionals'!
Two garages have looked so far - one a usually very reliable local Renault specialist, and the other an extremely expensive main Renault dealer. But to no avail.
So far they have replaced the
sensor, main computer, idle control valve, and battery. Apparently tested the starter motor. Probably other things have been done - garages have yet to send me bills so I don't know full list (I think they're both embarrassed!) But our local garage now seems to have given up.
Any suggestions that I can gently make? I see in these posts the following suggestions, but not sure if they're sensible suggestions:-
Petrol pump relay;
Crank shaft sensor;
Inlet air temperature sensor.
Have tried both keys, and it fails with both (so I assume it isn't the chip).
I hope there's someone out there who has solved the exact problem ....
