can you hear a clicking sound? if its clicking try connecting a jump lead from the negative battery terminal to the engine. if it then decides to start it requires a new earth strap which costs around £5.
also worth checking the battery terminals are clean and tight.
If its not clicking it may be worth checking the connections to the starter motor, they have a nasty habbit of corroding.
there is a thin wire goes to the solenoid on top of the starter, this activates the solenoid on top of the starter when you turn the key. definetly worth checking out.
Stef. Thanks for the quick reply. I've just got the
off and am cleaning that. Next step will be to jack car up and look at starter motor. I had to get it recovered to home on Friday and the RAC man said it might be ignition barrell (doubt this though) or the starter motor. There was some smoke came out from under bonnett (starter motor area) and we think the starter motor stayed on... hense the smoke when he got it going after bump starting it.
Any ideas on how much a new starter motor is if it is that and how easy to fit?
