No car is worth going insane over - after all it just a big lump of dumb metal
If it was a faulty switch I would expect it to happen with both lights. It could be a poor earth to the one bulb which is causing the problem or even a dirty fuse holder.
Have you checked the fuses to see if they are clean and sound.
A decent auto-spark should be able to trace the problem fairly quickly.
If you have access to a multi-meter or test lamp you could check if power is getting to the lamp and if there is then its likely to be a poor earth
