As someone who previously worked for Ford's Customer Service Division - I would steer well clear of the previous shape Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra.

They have well-documented water ingress issues (featured on Watchdog), which plays havoc with the ECU . Also, they are prone to air-con failures, both of which are very expensive & troublesome to fix.

Personally speaking, I'd be inclined to narrow the searching to MPVs which have folding seats - otherwise you'll need a garage to store them when removed, and you'll probably slip a disc or two when lifting them in and out.

Something else to consider would be pick-up (either single or double cab) - I don't know what you'd be carrying, but at least its not as exposed as it would be in an MPV.
