Happily, mine doesn't have any rust below decks, so maybe yours has been near the briny!
Talking about the gaiters, these seem to be made of a less flexible compound than would be desirable. This, coupled with the car's excessive lock, tends to put a strain on the metal retaining clips. I had to have both mine done within a couple of weeks of each other after the clips came off and squidged grease all over the inner wheel rim! They've been OK since, but it's a regular checking point now. I just try to avoid going to full lock!
My other cars are less unusual!
