Yup it has ABS but as I have had the car from new I have never noticed this sound at all but perhaps I am getting paraniod and believe me I do not wish to disconnect the battery again.
I must point out that this is electric/electronic and not mechanical and is a constant sound, I hope it does not flatten the battery over a period of time
Disconnecting the battery again might not be such a bad idea. I've seen hints that it is a good idea to switch on the SIDE LIGHTS while you disconnect & re-connect the battery - perhaps it discourages surrent spikes to zap the electronics? Also, you may need to leave it disconnected for an hour or so so that it completely resets when re-connected - don't know if this is really true?
