The Vel Satis I owned had xenons also, and I used to get the same thing happening.

When I read the manual, it mentioned that the dipped beam level gets raised slightly when travelling at higher speeds (it didn't define 'higher speeds' though). It would make sense, I suppose as you would benefit from increased range. And this would remain unnoticed in the MOT test bay.

It may well be the same for your car.
