I have recently come back from the alps in my Laguna and have decided that the tyres I have a rubbish in the snow. I began to suspect this when we had that dump of snow in the South East a couple of weeks ago.
The car is a Laguna with the 2.0
petrol engine and is currently running on ContiSport Contact 225/45/R17 tyres. The car is restricted to the skinniest of chains because of the low suspension and fat tyres.
I think that the Michelin tyres (Pilots IIRC) I had previously were better in the snow. They would still have been summer tyres though.
Does anybody know of a link to tyre comparisons for snow performance?
Alternatively I could splash out and get a set of winter tyres and narrower rims but that seems excessive for one or two weeks a year. Would anyone have any recommendations about this? What size would be correct for this car?
Is it viable to swap tyres on the existing rims, or just use winter tyres all year round? In fact does anybody hire winter tyres and rims?
