Yes there is a strange grugling sound from the lower dashboard or footwell area, but I relate this to, when I have air-con on.
Which I have on all the time now, to keep the cooling fan running....
Can't located a valve to the right side but there appeares to be something to the far left as you look in from the front (ie drivers side?) a hand turn black knob(?)

Lads thanks for sticking with me on this one. It's a much loved workhorse and am reluctant to retire it just yet...
Airlock in the heater matrix or indeed matrices as mentioned earlier in the thread.
This will def show symptoms of overheating until cleared.
The black hand turn knob you mention sounds like excatly what you are looking for, you need to warm the car up, switch the heaters on full blast and loosen this screw. Wait until only water flows from the opening, you should hear the air being released as well.
You may have to top the coolant up when the engine is cold and repeat this procedure several times to fully bleed the system.
