Hi Stu,

Sounds like you have made good progress.

I think you should give it some time to confirm whether you have cured the ECU problem.

Coolant level should rise in expansion tank as engine heats up. Coolant expands with temperature causing the rise in level. You must have a small leak somewhere as no hiss indicating the normal slight overpressure in expansion tank. Renewing the hose clips may be years overdue. The lower ones tend to fail due to rust. How about renewing your coolant as it is only good for 4 - 5 years? The coolant additives that protect the internals from corroding are consumed over time. Neglecting changing the coolant on time does often lead to blown head gasket.

You need to monitor coolant level until you have identified the leak. There is some fluorescent colour that you can add to the coolant to make finding the leak easier. Carry a bottle of ready made coolant is always advisable.
