It's just possible the alternator is overcharging the battery and gassing it i .e. creating a lot of gas bubbles in it.

Try checking the voltage (if you have a meter) across the battery terminals when the engine is running - around 14volts is good, more than 15v is too much.

Also, test the battery voltage with the engine off when both hot & cold. 12.5v is good, 12v or less indicates battery in knackered.

Also check for corrosion in earth strap from battery to engine.
