Hello Dan,welcome to the forum.
Have you got a spare key you can try?
I'm sure that your keys have chips in them that switch the immobiliser off when you put the key in the ignition.Around the ignition there is an aerial that picks up the signal from the key,so it is either the key or aerial that is faulty.
Earlier Renaults have the immobiliser built in with key blip and central locking,but I don't think this is the case with yours.
If you have a spare key,try it and get back to us.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
