Advice on cleaning the ecu contacts please

im planning on cleaning the ecu contacts tomorrow in hope it solves the many problems ive had with my 2001 16v 1.8 laguna,

is it safe to disconnect the battery? when i done that with my old megane the central locking went.

is it easy to get at the ecu contacts? i believe its located under the battery tray.

incedently the problem ive had with the laguna is constantly going into limp mode , sometimes really high revs , ive replaced the parts the garage computer said was at fault , map sensor and throttle pedal sensor , but the problem still exists.

also alot of the time when i depress the clutch it 'screams' at me

anyway advice and tips on ecu cleaning most welcome
