Is it alarmed?

Your advice please.
I have a 57 Grand Espace Dynamique.
I assumed a modern car would be alarmed as standard. There's no mention of an alarm in the handbook, only the immobiliser and deadlocks. A dealer wasn't sure as he couldn't see any ultrasonic sensors (he thought there were usually a couple towards the rear). So, should it have one and when would it arm? Is there an override? (I'm used to locking the kids in the car when paying for petrol etc. They know how to get out, but no-one can get in. Can I still do this?)
