The 2.2TD Jag is a considerable investment; it also follows the general rules of modern TD engines. A good full synthetic will easily be good for 12K miles if not considerably more and will look after your new car internally. A diesel fuel modifyier one a month will also pay for itself in keeping those injectors working at their very best maximising performance, MPG and minimising maintenance. As always the dealer will likely want to put a (cheap?) semi synthetic in your car and charge you heavily for the privilage, they may also suggest that not using what they usually put in will invalidate warranties; this is incorrect and illeagal. Once your car is over 10-15k miles insist on a real full synthetic of at least 5w-30 but preferably 0w-30. Castrol Edge and Amsoil TSO are my recomendations here. More expensive but better value. The final tip is to let the car idle on starting up for 15 seconds before driving and to idle for 15 seconds before switching off; this will allow full lubrication of turbo bearings off load on starts and allow the spooling down of the turbo and bearings before switching off the oil supply. A very good car which I have seen do 150K in 2 years without missing a beat, if looked after the engine should easily do 250K if not double.
Currently in amsoil's garage:
