98 Clio vs IR key

Hi guys

I've read most of the posts on here regarding copying IR keys, and how expensive they are to replace at Renault (circa 150).

I have only one key for my 98 Clio, so I went to Timpsons to get a copy made. Sure enough it works, just lacks the remote central locking button but its usable enough.

I started thinking, if i bought an old key from ebay , then took the new Timpsons key blade and inserted that into the old key, what else would I have to do to get the mutant key to work ?

I'm presuming there's a chip or something inside the Timpson's key (?) so swap those over ? And possibly there's another chip thats programmed into the IR receiver to unlock/lock the doors that would need recoding from the old key to the new car?

Can anyone see any major issues / problems with doing this ?
