It is quite normal to have to remove the air filter and or heater pipes/wiring to see/get at the TDC sensor.
It should be bolted the the engine block just below the cylinder head on the gearbox/flywheel side. If you are sat in the car it will be on your left....

Thanks for that Oily much appreciated. I will take a look at it again tomorrow. Do you think that the replacement of this sensor will cure my problem?
