Hey, Aaron, that's a very comprehensive dialogue you're having. I'm glad you were ultimately successful, but if manufacturers cough to such a design fault, the floodgates will open, so you can see why they were (entirely wrongly) standing their ground.
Just a small observation - I have an Avantime which has a metal safety catch, so no issue for me. However, If I don't slam my bonnet reasonably hard, the main lock doesn't catch and you'd never know by just looking at it. It's all properly oiled/greased too. So claiming it's the owner's fault doen't always wash.
My other cars are less unusual!
