Have I been a plonker.
Here's what happened.
I had an old Laguna on my drive waiting to be dismantled or scraped. Yesterday a guy knocked on my door and asked if the car was scrap. I said yes but I need the gearbox (not very old) and other parts off it.
He offered to take the car to the scrap yard and remove the gearbox when the engine had been cut out and then return the box to me. As I am in no condition to be removing gearbox's I thought yeah OK thats good
He turned up this morning as arranged with his father and promised to have the gearbox back to me within a couple of hours. That was at 9-30 this morning.
Well Guess what? I am still waiting for the gearbox.
When he took the car I made him fill in the V5 and I have checked the details tonight and suprise suprise the postcode and address don't exist. Name is probably false as well.
I have reported it to the police as I am concerned that the car may not be going for scrap but may be used in a job. (it still runs great)
They have taken all the details and given me a crime number after telling me how silly i've been. I did get the number of the van that he arrived in this morning and have passed that on to the police. They have told me that the car number is a registered vehicle but can't tell me who to (data protection act)
They advised me to leave it till Monday just in case the gearbox does return. Some hope.. And if it doesn't it will be reported as a theft of a gearbox
I can't believe how stupid I have been
I would like to nominate this post for Pr1ck of the week award
