I believe cable breaks is the most normal cause. Suggest you obtain a wiring diagram and a multimeter to make fault finding easier.
Here is a home made wiring diagram for the Kangoo showing wiring for passenger side window hoist.

Wiring diagram for driver side hoist is similar, just ignore passenger switch.
The wiring for your Grand Scenic may be different. Maybe someone has a home made wiring diagram that can be shared.TK
