Took the fuse out and it was fine. Put the fuse back in and now the window will go up and down in short bursts i.e. a couple of inches at a time and then stops.

Any idea what this would be?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Hello Richard.

By pulling the fuse you have reset the window,to get it to go up and down properly you need to reset it's paramaters.Get the window fully down and hold the button down for a few seconds, then put the window up and hold the button up for a few seconds. It should now work correctly.

As to what caused the original problem, water ingress into the connection by the door hinges is common, try having a look inside of the connector and see if any signs of moisture are apparent. If so,use a moisture repellant like WD40 and leave the connection to dry out.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
