The button on the steering will also switch it off, so as this was just to test it was safe in the sense that it was me pressing the button to switch it on and if it had started I could have pressed the button to switch it off. In the event that did not happen so getting a switch on loan to see if that solves the problem. Thanks for the heads up anyway.
You're welcome mate. I was concerned about the safety thing, that's all. Probably because I don't trust these electronics 'as far as I could poke them in the eye with my baby finger'.
Can't say I've had any cruise control problem though apart from the steering-wheel lights not working, and not knowing why.
