I see your point Vel - but surely if someone was phoning for parts would it not be better if they could request them by the correct part number or name - even independent garages could use such as facility.
In these hard economic times would it not make good business sense that if the dealer can't get repair work at least they could sell some spares.
Not only that it would help reduce the risk of incorrect parts being ordered and the poor customer left fuming because his/her car is off the road.
People expect more openness now-a-days and see sharing of knowledge as a good thing. On the other hand knowledge is power and power is control.
I personally think it is time the motor trade stop treating their customers as gormless and such access is likely to go someway to repairing the poor image suffered by many dealers.
