Have you checked that it's not working at all?

i.e. not folding in AND not unfolding?

We had a similar problem on the Merc after it had been serviced on the driver's door mirror - it would unfold, but you had to manually fold it in.

What I did was pack the joints with LM grease, and voila, now it works.

Turns out that the car is valeted prior to collection, and the mirrors automatically fold in when locked - so the jetwashing blew off the grease....

Just something you may want to try before dismantling.
