Hi Saabguy,

Good to hear that your passengers enjoyed being back in the Vel Satis compared to the Passat. Everyone comments on how much rear space there is in the Vel Satis, and the comfy seats.

I've had my first bad taste of Vel Satis ownership, as I took it for its annual service and MOT and it needs new brakes and pads all round, plus a new rear caliper. I didn't take it to a Renault dealer but took it to a local specialist as I don't trust Kwik-Fit etc (who hadn't even heard of a Vel Satis!). They seem to know what they're taking about but they tell me the caliper is special and costs about 250 alone as a part, plus the discs are sealed and contain the bearings and hubs, so they're not cheap either. I won't tell this forum what the total cost comes to as it'll make some cry, but I just wanted to see if any of you can confirm that the calipers, brakes, discs and pads aren't cheap and also confirm what the specialist told me that the Initiale spec V6 diesel uses different components to the lower spec cars, so if I get a cheaper price from another indie garage, it may be because they've sourced parts for the wrong spec VS, which will cause mine even more damage?
