See if you can actually get a look at a car with Carminat fitted before going any further. If you're used to something as sophisticated as TomTom, then Carminat will be a serious disappointment.
It's a shame that you've already bought the display and control panel, but is it really worth chucking more money at the main CD player/computer units for a system that's vastly inferior to most after-fit systems? If you dig around, there's an interface that'll let you hook a composite video input to the Carminat screen (though the input has to be NTSC.) I'm not sure where you'd get one - I saw them on
ages ago. Maybe you could fit the screen and hook it up to a DVD player.
