I agree with madnoel10 Never disconnect the battery while engine is running. Usually it damages currently operating devices, and the one always operable while engine running is the computer, so you might be lucky not to have burnt it. The problem might be the brushes in alternator and/or the bearings inside, usually if the red light blinks it is so. You might also check the cables on the starter motor. If alternator, check for used one, or original renewed part at local dealer.
