Spongy Brakes

Hello all, I`m sure it`s been asked before, but still I need to ask, doing 65 on the carriage way went to stop and "surprise", the brakes weren`t as sharp as expected, heart was though, pedal hit the floor and took longer than expected to stop. looked at the resovior and it was half full (empty), so topped it up to full mark, but no change still spongy, need help and pic`s if possible on how to bleed if that will fix the problem, have 2 children and do a bit of driving all information appreciated.
