A lot more than that. Plus, if I recall correctly, the dealer fit reversing kit is only a two sensor system - you only get the full four on the factory order.
The genuine sensors are positioned in the rear bumper rubbing strip. They seem to work well there, and I've only had false alarms when reversing off a steep path (I think it quite sensibly saw the flat road behind me as an obstruction.)
When I fitted a two sensor system to my last L2, I put one each side of the number plate for convenience. This was lower than the manufacturer suggested, and the system would often give the 'long range' beep even if nothing was behind you. But the faster and constant beeps still triggered at the correct times, making the system perfectly usable. To be honest, I don't think the mounting level is really that critical.
