I spotted an item on one of the morning TV programmes (Sorry I can't remember which channel) where a reporter took a 10 year old car to trade in against a brand new Mondeo and on the face of it he was getting a couple of grand off the book price which brought it down to around £12,500. After a bit more research he was able to get the same model for £10,000 without a trade-in. So I suggest anyone considering this option to shop around and keep a calculator in your pocket. Ireland operated a similar scheme around 10 years ago and whilst it encouraged a few to buy new cars the dealers where offering similar prices regardless of someone turning up in an old banger.
