key fob problems

i have a renault megane coupe S REG, my key fob has stopped working, it has been playing up for a while, and now has stopped working altogether, i bought new batteries thinking it was that, but its made no difference at all. I have read on internet that you can check to see if it is the actual fob or not by holding key in front of a camera as if your gonna take a photo of it, to see if the sensor light is flashing or not because it cant be seen with the naked eye, so i did that and it isn,t flashing, only the tiny light on the front of the key is flashing to show batteries are working, so does this mean its just the fob thats not working anymore, i can only unlock doors through the lock in the door itself, i cannot start the car as the red light wont stop flashing on the dash, cant disharm immobiliser, pls help and is there a way round this at all without mega expensive bills.
Currently in roxy's garage:
renault megane coupe 2.0 litre
