I have come across 4 failed receivers over the past four years or so and all had been wet via either aerial or sunroof leakage. Like all electronics they don't like getting wet. There are two types depending on the age and model of the car. One is programmed and can only be replaced by a new one from Renault as it is coded to suit the car (typical cost 130 plus). The other is a dumb unit which only transponds the signal from the key to the immobiliser unit and doesn't requite coding (typical price from Renault 70)
