Ah sounds like the old resistor in a box system which is supposed to connect to the MAF fooling the ECU into thinking the incoming air is colder than it is. I doubt very much even if it was connected it would do any good and better still it may make the ECU throw up numerous faults.
In my view some of these are just an out and out con as the resistor and box can be bought at the likes of maplins for a few quid.
Personally I wouldn't recommend fitting it and put your purchase down to experience. Even a professional remap costing 300-400 is unikely to bring the power gains it claims
