Chances are you still have moisture inside the case. Do you have any DRY air cans like what is used on computers? Give it a good blow job with that and it might work again. Of course, WD40 disperses water but then you have to get rid of the WD40 too. If it worked after being sodden, then it should work again. Did you have to re-initialise it after changing the battery?
Just a thought that may be worth considering....
