Hi there, and welcome.
I tend to take the view that if you need to seek the advice of others about whether you keep a car - then its probably best got rid of.
You probably know this already, but just want some validation.
Its what to do with the car that's the prob.
Taking it away from the garage will involve paying them for the inspection work & putting it back together again, plus there will be a towing cost. So that puts selling it on
as spares/repair a risky proposition.
Have you looked at the cost of a recon/salvaged engine? I did a quick search and found a few for a lot less than the £500 - £1000 to repair the existing one.
Some even come with a warranty.
What you could do is get a replacement engine, its a lot cheaper to remove & replace an engine (so lower labour cost), then sell the car if you decide that's the best thing to do.
This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
Currently in VelSatisfied's garage:
