If the door open indicator works that proves that you are getting a signal from the door switch to the ECU which by elimination cuts out half of the circuit to check. All I can suggest is to to check with a multi meter each connection along the wiring starting at the lamp holder and working back to the ECU until you get a voltage reading. The Haynes book should help with the wire colours, sorry I can't be more specific.
