My cambelt's just about due for a change, too. I was looking in the Hayne's manual and it says the cambelt tension needs to be checked electronically by specialist (Renault) equipment to both check the tension and measure the 'vibration frequency'. Goes on to say if it's done 'by hand', as it were, you need to dash off to the local Renault garage asap to have it checked and verified. Recommends you don't drive long distance or at high revs until this is done.
Frankly, it scared me to death.
Is this precaution really necessary?

Incidentally, one of my local garages quoted 342+VAT for full service (using my oil ) and cambelt change which sounds reasonable but when I read the above, I got a little worried!
