Wonderful technical stuff - now I know why engine oil is so expensive but essential.

I can remember many years ago a Castrol rep used to call at the garage where I worked and he kept preaching to us about the three essential jobs that engine oil was expected to do.
1. To lubricate.
2. To cool internal working parts.
3. To conduct impurities away from the combustion process.

I am of the opinion nothing has changed in this respect but very few engine oil adverts seem to promote the vital cooling aspect of lubricants
