re-vitalising disc brakes

Our megane coupe was stood around for a while before we got it and as a result it got rusty discs. now they are getting better but i was wondering if it was worth lightly abrading both the rotor surface and the face of the pads then bedding them in again. Is this worth it our likly to a be a waste of time?
