sounds as if the battery is dead. Take it to a motor factors and they will normally test it for free.
then Question time:

How old is the battery? if more than 4 - 5 yrs it is getting on a bit.

If the battery is good start looking at the earths 1st, a quick tip is to connect battery then run a jump lead from the -ve terminal to a good clean earth point on the body / engine and try to start, if the battery is good and it starts with the boost cable to earth you have an earthing problem
