The point I was trying to make was that the
sensor only prevents an engine from firing,if your car isn't even turning over then the problem is elsewhere and not with the sensor.
Ideally you need to check the feed to the exciter wire on the starter,if there is a feed then it could be an engine earth breaking down(especially as it only does it when the engine is hot),or even a faulty new starter (not unheard of).
If you don't have a feed,then you have to work back from there.Have you tried pressing the brake pedal and/or clutch pedal when the problem happens?.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
