The SERV light will come on when there is a fault picked up in any of the on board systems,it isn't a service reminder light.Once the airbag fault has been rectified,the SERV light will also go out along with the airbag light.
It still sounds like a connection fault under one of the front seats.This is a very common fault and is usually easily sorted.I'm sure there are a couple of threads on here already detailing the fault and a few even go on to explain that in some cases the plugs have been removed and the wires soldered together to stop the problem coming back.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
