Or you can get one off ebay for 75, so long as:

1. It came off a similair year (pre or post 1999 for mark 3) the connectors were different before late 1999 on mark threes.

2. It came off a car with same engine type. (petrol/diesel)

3. It came off a car with same roadwheel size. (ie; 15"/16")

4. It comes with the remote plip(s) for it. The remote plips are tied to that display, yours will NOT operate the locking

Satisfy the above and it will work fine, provided you swap the new remote plip circuitry (carefully) into your old key(s)

If you get one from a diesel with 15" wheels and you have a petrol with 16" wheels the speed and fuel guages will display the wrong info. Renault can set it up for your car but that'll cost.

Also bear in mind the higher mileage will be stored so if you get one with lower mileage you will retain your own mileage, if you get one with higher mileage it will store that mileage instead.

So, to install an ebay unit if you get one that's suitable:

swap the circuitry from the ebay plip to your key, this means you have the correct plip for the locking, the correct insert for the ignition barrel and the correct transponder for the immobiliser.

remove the old display as per the well known method available in detail on here.

switch your sidelights on, then hook up the replacement unit, screw it all back together and bobs your aunties wayward other half.

I did it and it worked out just fine.

Just in case anyone is wondering, the fault with my old unit is an IC (integrated circuit (or chip if you like) they get fried by the sun, so best to park in the shade whenever possible. These repair companies install a new chip and reprogramme the coded line.

There are only two other things that can cause failure on these units - a diode and 3 capacitors, all are replaceable (done it), the diode and one of the capacitors is available from Maplin, while the other 2 are not so easy to come by and took me a while to find.
