Laguna - immobiliser problems

Is it true that unplugging the battery and reconnecting it then the immobiliser may reset..enabling the car to start up?

Im currently having difficulty in getting my car de-mobilised. The AA were called and a list of fault codes came up all stating 'immobiliser'. However, i have no immobiliser or ECU light coming up on the dash which he said seemed a little odd.

Is it worth getting the 4 digit code from Renault that i have read about in these forums?

Any help would be great

PS. I am in Kent and this is my last attempt at getting the car running. If this doesn't work i will be selling it for spares or repair so if you are interested make me an offer. It is a 2000 model 1.8 16V Sport on a V registration - 75k miles on clock.
