Hello Terry, and welcome to the forums.
I owned and ran a Vel Satis (hence my username
) for a few years.
Mine was a 3.0 DCi Initiale (so although the engine is different, and by all means search through the forums for issues with the 2.2), I'll try my best to help out.
Tyres - I got mine from a tyre-fitter mate for £100 per corner, the most important factor for these tyres is that they are XL (or Extra Load) rated....
Fuel consumption on mine was between 29-42 mpg, I would imagine the 2.2 to be up to 4-5 mpg better, but remember, this is a big, heavy car - regardless of the engine powering it.
Never had a problem with the card itself (apart from how awkward it feels in the pocket).
I sold mine on when reliability issues became intolerable - no-one really knows how to work on them, as they are so rare. I had an electrical fault which caused the battery to drain over 2 days - no-one could trace that, I had tyre pressure sensors giving phantom malfunctions, the sat-nav kept ejecting the disc (always when I was relying on it
), and one of the rear doors would intermittently remain locked (with 2 kids in child seats - not a great idea).
I lost a fortune on my car, but it was a very roomy & comfortable car.
I just wished that it had been built properly in the first place - I still would've owned it.
Don't think this is a car you can run on a tight budget, it will also halve its value every year you own it (as mine did).
Best of luck,
