It looks like the keycard may not have been properly programmed into the cars ECU .

There are two aspects of the card. One is where it sends a coded radio signal to the receiver in the car which opens the vehicle. The second aspect is that the keycard contains a programmed chip which is read by the card reader. Should the battery either in the car or keycard go flat it should be possible to use the emergency key to gain entrance to the vehicle and place the keycard into the reader and the vehicle should be capable of being started

Having said that it is possible the chip inside the card is duff

P.S. When you get your new keycard make sure it comes with a working emergency key. Better still I would recommend the emergency keys be tested at least once each year - if not sooner
