mord, the link method you suggest sounds the most straight forward and non-invasive way to achieve this.

I just need to find where this link goes

I tried my local Renault garage, but they were hopeless and couldn’t (or wouldn’t) help

greenside's idea also sounds like a good idea, if there is no simple fusebox link method available.

I was also thinking that a simple transistor circuit could be used to achieve this.
This should be possible by simply bridging a few connections in the main fuse box on the right-hand side of the dashboard.

I'd just need to workout which points in the fuse box to bridge

I’m sure that somewhere a simple links(s) can achieve this, it’s just a case of where?

Actually after a little more thought, it's a Renault so it's probably not that simple
