A cracked headlight isn't an instant failure,as long as the headlight still has a pattern in the beam setter and it's light output isn't effected.If the light is damp inside due to moisture coming in through the crack,then you can take the back off the headlight and take the bulbs out and use a hair dryer to gently heat the lense to disperse the condensation.This won't have a long term effect,but it will get the car through the test if your desperate.

And Stef,that was a very thorough MOT the VW had,I'd be very pleased with it.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
