No offence, but if that's true, I wouldn't attempt the timing belt, it's quite a complicated job, even with a Haynes manual. As for your hot rear wheel, I presume they're discs on the back. It could be a sticking brake caliper causing the brake to bind, which will make the whole wheel/hub get hot. Eventually if left, it will overheat the wheel bearings/grease, and make even more work needed.
My uncle bought an 02 Laguna about 18 months ago, and I noticed the rear disks were quite rusty looking through the wheels (sign of lack of use). He took it back and got it checked out, and it turned out the rear brakes weren't even working. They did it all under warranty, but it's not something you expect from a relatively new car.
